Bomber Jacket + Skirt

Hello All!

Today I am very excited to share this McCall’s 7100 bomber jacket. I’ve loved bomber jackets since high school but I haven’t worn one since my band letterman’s jacket. I have to admit that I was afraid of this pattern because it has about 11 pieces and I didn’t know what to expect. I wanted to add a lining to the jacket but at the time I did not know how to do it. Last year I purchased the Mimi G version of the bomber jacket which comes with a sew along so I decided to use her video to help me make the McCall’s jacket.

I purchased this African print from Fine Fabrics and I used a blue Ponte knit for the lining, collar, arm bands, and lower band. I initially wanted to use the African print fabric for a skirt or a dress but I was inspired by Tiffany from Tipstitched when she used a green African print to make her bomber jacket. I enjoyed making this jacket and I’ve already cut out a different version to make in the next couple of weeks.

The skirt is made from the same Ponte knit I used for the lining of the jacket. To make the skirt I drafted a pattern following a tutorial from the Mimi G Sew It Academy. It consists of 2 panels and an elastic waistband. Let me know if you have used McCall’s 7100 and what you thought of it.

  1. LeJanaro,

You did a good job and I really like the color of the bomber, I have the same pattern and have had it for a while I have not even gotten the material for it as of yet due to being scared, I’m slowly trying to break out of my fear of sewing, but thank you for showing.

Thank you! You should definitely give it a try. I’m always scared to try certain patterns but watching video tutorials help me a lot. I also use cheap fabric that I’m not afraid of messing up the first time LOL!
