As I was planning this post I didn’t think that I had many makes for 2017. I gain almost 30 pounds and I felt as if nothing I made fit my body, so I was very discouraged about sewing clothing. In that I discovered that I have an equal love for sewing bags. I started my bag making business at the end of 2016 making mostly clutch bags and then I eventually branched out and started making different types of bags. Any who, I’ve gotten off track because this post is about all of the clothes that I made last year. As I was scrolling through my blog, I realized that I made quite a few items so I will share them with you below. I hope that you enjoy!
January – March
McCall’s 7021 is one of my favorite patterns! I have made this peplum top in a variety of colors, using short and long sleeves. The skirt is an easy pencil skirt with one seam in the back. You can check out the original blog post here.
The toaster sweater is a great pattern for beginners. When I sewed this pattern I purchased the PDF from Sew House Seven but they now have this pattern available through Simplicity patterns. You can check out the original blog post here.
Burda 6659 was my go to pattern for joggers. I was looking for a comfortable alternative to slacks, something that I could dress up or dress down and this pattern is perfect. There is a video tutorial on my YouTube channel, you can check out the original blog post here.
I was looking for some instant gratification and a dress that wasn’t form fitting when I found McCall’s 7533. This pattern is great for beginners and there are a variety of different options for this pattern. You can check out the original blog post here.
Whenever I feel like I have lost my sewing mojo I turn to projects that I can get done in under an hour. This is my version of an easy maxi skirt with one seam and an elastic waist band. There is a video tutorial on my YouTube channel, you can check out the original blog post here.
April – June
Bomber jackets are my favorite thing! I can’t even express how much I adore bomber jackets and I was over the moon when Mimi G provided a video tutorial for her pattern. This pattern is actually McCall’s 7100 but I used her tutorial as a guide. The skirt is a self drafted pattern I used from the Sew It Academy. You can check out the original blog post here.
If you can’t tell already, I love an easy pattern! A pattern that I can get done in 1 to 2 hours is my favorite thing to sew. Burda 6818 is a simple skirt pattern with a short and long version. There is a video tutorial on my YouTube channel, you can check out the original blog post here.
I was honored to be invited to review the Anitra Jumpsuit from Style Sew Me patterns. I enjoyed the process. You can check out the original blog post here.
Simplicity really lived up to their name with Simplicity 8379! A pattern with literally 2 pieces has to be the easiest pattern to put together. This dress knocked my sexy meter up to 10! LOL! You can check out the original blog post here.
The Saldana was the first free pattern in Sew Sew Def Magazine. I highly recommend this pattern, I have made all three versions. You can check out the original blog post here.
Sleeves were all the rage this year and I had to get in on the trend. McCall’s 7505 fit exactly what I was looking for. This is a simple pattern that I highly recommend. You can check out the original post here.
I have to admit that I am not a fan of the cold shoulder look, but I wanted to make a version of it before I completely wrote it off. This is Kwik Sew 4207, a quick and easy shirt pattern. There is a video tutorial on my YouTube channel, you can check out the original blog post here.
Kwik Sew 3515 is an easy skirt pattern with 2 pattern pieces. I love the way this skirt flares from my hips. The top is Simplicity 1070 (Mom make). You can check out the original blog post here.
I can’t say enough about this jumpsuit, it is very comfortable and easy to sew. This pattern was a free gift from issue 2 of Sew Sew Def Magazine. You can check out the original blog post here.
I don’t sew very many pants patterns unless they are easy or they have a feature that I just can’t pass up. Simplicity 8393 caught my eye because of the split in the sides. You can check out the original blog post here.
My sister is in love with empire waist dresses. When she told me that’s what she wanted I knew McCall’s 5893 was the perfect pattern. I made this dress many moons ago for myself but I couldn’t wait to make it for her. I think she likes it! You can check out the original blog post here.
New Look 6461 is a great casual outfit, you can definitely diversify your wardrobe with this pattern. You can check out the original blog post here.
July – September
I have a ton of African Print fabric and I’m always confused as to what to make with it. I’m always torn between skirts and handbags. This time I decided to make a mini skirt using a self drafted pattern. You can check out the original blog post here.
New Look 6515 is a pants pattern that features a split in the front. When making this pattern I had every intention of adding the split but I completely forgot! You can check out the original blog post here.
I don’t use very many See & Sew patterns but this one caught my eye because of the elastic at the waist. I would love to make more of these in the future. You can check out the original blog post here.
I always have every intention of making pieces that I can wear to work and other occasions. This time I succeeded, I used New Look 6246 and 6273. There is a video tutorial on my channel for the jacket. You can check out the original blog post here.
I am jumping up and down right now because this is my favorite make of the year! When I saw New Look 6508 I knew I had to make it using some type of comic book fabric. I also knew that I wanted to wear it to Dragon Con. You can check out the original blog post here.
October – December
McCall’s 7574 is a pattern I grabbed because I had the exact fabric to match the picture. I wanted to test the pattern first so I used a different fabric and this was the end result. You can check out the original blog post here.
I’ve always wanted to make some workout gear so I decided to use Simplicity 8212 & 8336 and I have to admit, they turned out pretty well. You can check out the original blog post here.
I found this color blocked skirt pattern from So Sew Easy on Craftsy. This is a very easy pattern to sew and they have a tutorial on YouTube. You can check out the original blog post here.
I hope that you all enjoyed my year end review. I hope to have many more makes in 2018!
You had a magnificent sewing year!
Thank you! I love all of your makes as well!
