Hello all!
I will be the first to tell you that I am not a fan of sewing with white fabric. I’m always afraid that the fabric will get dirty or I will spill something on it once I’m done. For the next Atlanta Sewing Style photo shoot we had to complete an all-white look as well as an African print look. Well I completed both looks but I was suffering from a horrible case of sciatica, so I did not make it to the photo shoot. I joked on Instagram that I was going to photograph my looks and then super impose myself into their group shots lol!
For my white look I went with McCall’s 7052 peplum top pattern and a simple 1 seam pencil skirt. I didn’t want to take any chances on messing up the fabric because I kept going back and forth in my head. I would usually use McCall’s 7021 peplum top, but the pattern is out of print and mine is too small. I didn’t want to take the time to make my pattern pieces larger. I remembered that I had M7052 in my stash. The only difference in the 2 patterns are one has darts and a looser fit.
You really can’t go wrong with a pencil skirt, especially a 1 seam pencil skirt with an elastic waistband. If you need a tutorial on this, Mimi G has a 30-minute pencil skirt tutorial on her YouTube channel. It is a great stash buster project as well. The fit and the length of this pencil skirt is perfect for what I was going for. Overall, I enjoyed making this entire outfit, both the top and the skirt can be completed in 2 hours.
