DIY Crossbody Bag + YouTube Tutorial

A crossbody bag is the best accessory to have when running errands or you just don’t want to carry a heavy purse. What I love about this bag is that you can make it out of several different fabrics and end up with an amazing bag. From start to finish, you can make this bag in about an hour. Seriously it’s that simple!

I made this bag in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, using a cotton cloth fabric from Joann’s.

Tools needed for this project:

  • Pdf pattern
  • ½ yard of exterior fabric
  • ½ yard of lining fabric
  • ½ yard of fusible fleece
  • ½ yard of woven interfacing
  • One 8” zipper
  • Two 1” swivel clasp
  • Two 1” D rings
  • One 1” strap slider
  • Scissors (fabric and paper)
  • Thread
  • Clips or pens
  • Sewing machine
  • Scotch tape

I have created a step by step video tutorial on how to make this mini crossbody bag as well as the pdf pattern. You can find the pdf pattern here Mini Crossbody Bag. Check out the tutorial below:

Hello…..I really love this tutorial….I just printed out the pattern and I think it’s too small.

    1. lejanarosnotions@gmail.com

      Hello,

Thank you. You have to take pieces A and B together and then cut your fabric on the fold. That will give you the full piece.

I watched your “How to…” YouTube video first and really want to try to make this to hold all my Bible study materials. Do you think this is large enough to hold a Bible, a soft cover workbook and a few other misc. things like a small blessed oil, pens and etc.? Or do I need to make it larger? This will be my very 1st sewing project and after watching several other people’s videos, I must tell you, yours is far superior. You showed step by step and explained everything so well I was actually able to understand everything. I wasn’t able to follow along with any of the other videos, so Thank you very much! Please let me know if you think if this bag size will work for my needs.

    1. lejanarosnotions@gmail.com

Thank you so much for your kind words! I think that you should make the bag larger. I have several other videos with larger size bags that you can use to get the size that you need. If you have any trouble or have any questions don’t hesitate to email me info@lejanaro.com.

  9. I can’t get the pattern to print. I need the measurements for the strap tabs and do I need two of them. Got the other measurements from fellow posts

    1. lejanarosnotions@gmail.com

      Hello Terry,
Yes you need 2 strap tabs. I sent the pattern via email, I hope you received it.

  10. Phyllis Liskey

I think the pattern is too small. I printed it out and it measures 5-3/4 x4-1/4

    1. lejanarosnotions@gmail.com

      Hello Phyllis,
You have to cut the pattern piece on the fold of your fabric. Once you tape it together, you should see the word FOLD on the side.
