Hello All! Well it has been quite a while since I have blogged about any of my makes. I’ve sewn a couple of outfits that I’ve made and finally photographed, and I will be sharing over the next couple of weeks. The last time I blogged was during my 12 Days of DIY Christmas Gift Ideas. I hope that you had a chance to check them out here on the blog as well as my YouTube channel. If you made any of the projects, tag me on Instagram @lejanarobpatterns.
Now on to this top, For Simplicity 8988, I made view B with the collar. I loved making this top because of the color blocking aspect of it. I wanted to use a red Ponte knit for the color blocking, but I did not have any in my stash, so I went with white Ponte knit. Who doesn’t love black and white right?
I was looking for the chunky sweater look, so I decided to cut the medium which is the 14 – 16. As you can imagine the top was huge and the sleeves were entirely too long. I’m only 5’2” tall, so I always have to do adjustments to my sleeves and pants.
Since the sleeves were so long, I decided to add some elastic to the hem of the sleeves because I didn’t want them to be that over sized at my wrist. I think it enhanced the look of the sleeve. The next time I make this top, I will also add some elastic to the hem of the top as well because I think that would make it look great as well.
I paired the top with some black and white color blocked pants that I made using Simplicity 8378. The white fabrics were a little off but it’s ok, I’m going to wear it anyway lol! You can check out the blog post for those pants here.
Overall this is a great pattern for beginners, and you can do so much with it, not with just view C but the other views as well. The pattern has a view with exposed seams and that is a great look as well. If you have made this pattern, let me know in the comments below. Happy sewing!
