The Saldana

Hello All! Today I want to share with you The Saldana. This is the free pattern that is featured in the first issue of SewSewDef Mag. Let’s talk about SewSewDefMag for a minute…this magazine is amazing. It is bright and colorful and it features many of the sewing bloggers that I follow and admire. This magazine is different any many ways, the first being that it features male sewers. I love how you get a look into other sewers journeys from the beginning to the present. I learned so many tips and tricks in the first issue that I can incorporate into my sewing.

Now back to the pattern. I made the t-shirt first just to test the sizing, I cut a medium and it fit perfectly. I also cut 2 pieces for the front because I did not have enough fabric to cut it on the fold. The only mistake I made is the neckband, I did not line it up properly so I had to take it apart which resulted in a hole in the fabric. I tried my best to hide it with top stitching but I am wearing my shirt with pride. I used a burgundy Ponte knit that I purchased from Fine Fabrics.

Next I made the maxi dress and when I tell you I am in love! I probably say that about every pattern I make LOL! I used a ITY knit that I purchased from Fine Fabrics. The pattern has a side slit that you can tie which add a unique style element. I did not use the method in the pattern instructions for the sleeve, I just used a 1 ½ inch hem. Next time I will modify the length because I am only 5’ 2” and it was very long on me.

The pattern was a quick and easy sew and I definitely recommend it for beginners. You also have the option to color block and use top stitching. A knee length color blocked version is already on my sewing table.
